The Land of Nod

As someone without children, I don't exactly plan how my child's bedroom would look. In fact I rarely notice anything to do with kids bedrooms, I tend to skip that section of the catalogue, walk past that department or skim it in the blog. That was before I found The Land of Nod, at first I didn't even notice it was all for children, as I searched the site I found my list of things I wanted growing...only it is all to decorate a kids room.

However, some of their stuff is just really - cool! It's playful, colourful and full of character, just what you want for your iddie ones. They stock furniture, bedding, toys and things for the walls, the age ranges vary suiting a baby too a ...well a 20 year old. These are some of my favourite bits, but check out the website and you will see what I mean. I would happily have this chalk board world map in my room and this adorable wooden bed in an aqua blue wouldn't look out of place in the best of homes. So have a browse!

The Love of Teal

Today is a bit of a slow day for me. I don't think I have actually woken up yet, my flat mates are full of cold and my catching it is pretty imminent. I'm in one of those moods where I want to curl up in a blanket and sleep the day away. So in order to cheer myself up a little bit I have put together some of my all time favourite pieces...in teal.

I love teal it's seems like such a optimistic colour, it reminds me of the sea and makes me feel calm and happy, so it's growing popularity in product design is a massive bonus for me. When I moved into my house my colour theme for my room was teal, so I have cushions, towels, candles and bedding all in this bold colour (although as time has gone by my theme has sort of gone into anything that looks cute.) I hope you love this colour a much as me, and if not that you learn to love it!

Kif & Katast animal cushions

I'm currently sitting on the sofa, balancing my laptop on a cat bum. My cat's have serious issues, the second you sit down they are there, padding you lap and setting up for a cheeky nap, and with one on either side, it's a pretty good set up I have going on right now if i'm honest. So I feel this post should be dedicated to my little fluff balls, and as you may know I really really like animal cushions...

I found these adorable little graphicy animal cushions through some serious browsing on Kif & Katast. They are really simple with a natural palette which blends with any home. They add a little bit of personality to a plain armchair or bed. Plus each cushion animal has it's own name which I love, my personal favourites are Leroy the French bulldog, Opie the Persian cat and Beeru the Pomeranian. Check out all the cute critters here!

Sketch Restaurant by Martin Creed

Morning all! It's Monday morning, probably most of the populations least favourite day, so I feel a bit of cheering up in order. My flatmate just gave me a Massive cookie...so my Monday is starting off pretty god damn well!! I wanted to share something a bit crazy, colourful and something that makes me grin from ear to ear like a child! Sketch Restaurant in Mayfair, London is renowned for a blend of tasty food, art and music. For a long time I have wanted to go just to drink in the atmosphere, but with their recent 'exhibition' I think I'm going to have to convince someone to take me!

Martin Creed won the turner prize in 2001, famous for his sculpture work of staking chairs...maybe getting him to design a restaurant space was a weenie bit risky, but man did he deliver!! This exciting colourful space uses every piece of furniture in the restaurant to create a mash of styles and eras. Although I have only seen pictures the space really seems to work, the only problem I see is me wanting to buy 90% of the chairs. Check out more images and how to eat at Sketch here, and make sure you check out their other rooms!

Frame Wallpaper

I remember a few months ago me and my mum where watching a program all about people going to other peoples houses and rating them. Naturally this was highly amusing for us, as we then proceeded to comment on how hideous peoples houses where, and sometimes how amazing they where...although we rarely agreed on the amazing...only the hideous. But in one house we saw something we both agreed was a brilliant idea, a wallpaper that was little frames, the person had then put drawings from her children, family photos and sometimes memos inside the little frames, it looked so brilliant and creative I had to find it.

So after a little bit of hunting, I found it! Said wallpaper is actually a pretty popular design, but this particular one is from Graham and Brown, head honchos of all things wallpaper. It a brilliant creative paper, that allows for a lot of different designs, either keep it for the kids, make it a designers note board, or keep it blank, the choice is yours! Look here for more inspiration and details.

Hinge Heads

We can all agree that there are certain parts of the home that kind of go unnoticed, for example the lightbulbs, the plugs, nails and all of these have been given some pretty snappy makeovers in the past. But one little tiny area of our home that gets overlooked more than most, door hinges. They aren't even a feature really, but maybe that's because nobody ever tried to make them one?

And so we say hello to Hinge Heads, a company dedicated to those tiny little critters that keep our doors swinging. These weenie decorative hinges vary in material and subject. You can get everything from a wolf too a tiny little cup of coffee! These are are a cute way to add a bit of quirky detail to your home. Check out their full range here

Good morning everyone! It's now the weekend, a time for relaxing, chilling out or maybe going to work...like me. But with that comfy, relaxing feel in mind I want to share the ULTIMATE cosy snuggle cocoon. Dedon are creators of luxury, I want that products, and Nestrest is no different. Designed by Daniel Pouzet and Fred Frety this giant nest is in my top 5 of things I could never afford but want so bad!

You can choose between a white or beach colour wicker, the fabric for the seat and cushions, and it looks pretty epic hanging from a tree. But can this crazy giant floating nest get any better? Yes...yes it can because they have just released a Mini Nestrest for your pets (below). A complete copy of the original only smaller, this tiny little snuggle spot is perfect for any posh pet! WRAP

Happy Friday everybody!! Today I want to share with you a little something I have had bookmarked for a while now. I originally found this bad boy a few months ago and have been following their progress for a while. WRAP is now on it's fourth issue, and this issue comes in a special edition screen printed cover by Primitive Press....Jackpot.

The idea behind the magazine is that it's a magazine and a product all in one, with the whole thing being make of wallpaper and not bound together (with stitching or staples etc.) So you can take apart the pages and display freely. I love the idea of this simple yet effective publication, and can't wait for more people to get to grips with the concept, and to love it! See some of their back issues here, you can buy all the issues on their big cartel store too, so can have the whole set!

Up-cycled Dressers

Don't you hate it when you look around your home (in particular your furniture) and you think....euk. Sometimes you need a lil revamp in your life, and that is what spring is all about! Time for a little spring clean of the old furniture me thinks. But I hear you say, I love my furniture, it just needs a little spruce up! So I have (once again) been scouring Etsy in hunt of some brilliant little paint jobs you can do on your dressers. A bit of fresh colour can completely revitalize old furniture, or you can go out and buy some really cheap second hand things from charity shops, and get a bit creative. But don't forget sometimes less is more! I love this up-cycled wooden chest in a chevron pattern, with the addition of some unique leather handles, a stylish and timeless piece is born!

Inspired by...Marie Antoinette 1780 French Court

I welcome you to my first ever feature on the blog!! Exciting...yes I know. This feature will be called 'Inspired by...' I will draw inspiration from books, painting and periods of History, to bring you some modern day solutions to some extravagant living. I can't guarantee 100% that my historical knowledge is correct (I will probably be calling on my sister for that who has a masters in History *big cheesy grin to her!*) but I will be giving it a good shot, and hopefully you guys won't be too picky if i'm a few centuries out! So lets get going with out first Inspiration, the french court of Marie Antoinette in 1780.

This was a pretty easy starting point, french style furniture is HUGE at the moment, the whole shabby chic look is here to stay it would seem. Although some of the pieces are just shabby to me, there can be no doubt that the furniture has class, elegance and with the right accessories can look really beautiful. I have chosen a few pieces I have found through browsing that remind me of a french palace, bought into modern day. A lot of my examples are pretty dark, simply because those where the objects I was drawn too, I love dark furniture with white walls or vice versa with a dark wall and light furniture. Oh, and the teacup lamp, I heard she drank Tea a lot...and I really love it! Enjoy, and don't forget to eat some cake while your at it!
